WA bushfires still blazing

WA BAL Report expresses sympathy for families that have lost their homes or loved ones in the bushfires in the southwest of Western Australia. The blaze, caused by a lightning strike, has already claimed two lives and burnt through more than 70,000 hectares. Firefighters are still battling the blazes, which have destroyed more than 160 homes in the towns of Yarloop, Waroona and Preston Beach.

A watch and act has also recently been issued for the Cockburn area at Woodman Point, as an out-of-control fire moves west.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has urged those living in areas under threat to evacuate, unless they are prepared to defend their home. Due to the unpredictable nature of bushfires, WA BAL Report urges those who live in areas at risk to evacuate to safety.

The Lord Mayor has also launched a Distress Relief Fund to assist those who have been affected by the bushfires, and has urged people to donate.

WA BAL Report reminds those living in a bushfire prone area of the importance of ensuring your home is as safe as possible from the threat of bushfires. This involves obtaining a BAL Assessment or BAL Report and making the appropriate adjustments in accordance with the applicable bushfire attack level.
