You may be familiar with bushfire attack level assessments and bushfire attack level reports. However, are you familiar with the other types of specialist bushfire work WA BAL Report specializes in?

Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Contour Map

A BAL Contour Map is a scale map of a development site and includes the proposed lot layout, showing indicative BAL ratings across the site and within the immediate surrounding area. The Contour Map is used to identify land suitable for development and areas of unavoidable risk. It is used for planning and building purposes to determine whether a building or development requires additional measures to manage the threat of bushfire and to ensure that appropriate risk management is incorporated into subdivision design and lot layout.

If you are planning to build or develop in a designated bushfire-prone area, you may be able to rely on the BAL Contour Map instead of a BAL Assessment. WA BAL Report can advise you whether this is appropriate and permitted for your property.

Bushfire Hazard Level (BHL) Assessment

A BHL Assessment is a high-level assessment which determines the potential intensity of a bushfire for a particular area and categorizes land as either a low, moderate or extreme bushfire hazard level. The BHL Assessment is used for strategic planning and subdivision purposes to identify land suitable for future development and potential land uses.

Bushfire Management Plan (BMP)

A BMP, also known as a Fire Management Plan (FMP), identifies the extent of the bushfire hazard to a development. It sets out the short, medium and long term bushfire risk management strategies for a particular area. A BMP is relied upon in support of planning proposals and development applications in bushfire-prone areas, and includes consideration of fire breaks, firefighting water supply, firefighting access, easements and ongoing risk management responsibilities.
