WA BAL Report stresses the importance for bushfire assessment professionals of ensuring they gain knowledge about bushfires and bushfire assessing and remain up to date with industry best practices. WA BAL Report welcomes the news that the subsidy scheme for local government employees to complete a 5-day bushfire attack level (BAL) assessor short course has been expanded.
The subsidy of $870 per person provides part reimbursement of the cost for up to 3 staff per local government to undertake the Level 1 BAL Assessor course. To be eligible for the subsidy, an employee must be employed as a planner or building surveyor or performing those functions, be a current permanent employee of a local government, have their supervisor’s support to attend the course and complete the whole course by 31 May 2016.
The objective of the subsidy is to develop the capacity of planners and building surveyors and those performing planning and building surveying functions within local government to enhance their understanding of BAL assessments. Although local government staff are not required to become Accredited Level 1 BAL Assessors, they should do if they are intending to provide professional BAL Assessment services. These BAL Assessment services include a bushfire attack level assessment report.
