International Firefighters’ Day Memorial Service

WA BAL Report provides its utmost support to firefighters and the tough work they do. International Firefighters’ Day is a day to consider and acknowledge the work done by firefighters around the world every day, and to commemorate the legacy of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

In recognition of the sacrifice and dedication of firefighters, a memorial service will be held from 11:15am to 12:00pm on Sunday, 1 May 2016 at the Firefighters’ Memorial Grove on Forrest Drive, Kings Park. The service is open to DFES personnel and volunteers, family and friends of firefighters and members of the public.

Career and volunteer firefighters have protected the WA community for over 115 years. This is an opportunity to recognise the work of career and volunteer firefighters who work to keep us safe all year round. The inaugural memorial service to mark International Firefighters’ Day in WA was held by DFES in May 2013. On International Firefighters’ Day in May 2014, the WA Premier the Hon Colin Barnett, the Minister for Emergency Services the Hon Joe Francis MLA and the Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Wayne Gregson APM unveiled firefighter statues at the Firefighters’ Memorial Grove.

The International Firefighters’ Day Memorial follows on from the National Memorial Service in honour of Fire and Emergency Services, to be held on 29 April 2016 in Canberra.
